Spotlight on the Medical Reserve Corps!
The Medical Reserve Corps, also known as the MRC, is made up of medical and non-medical volunteers from all different backgrounds. In Putnam County, the MRC assists the health department in providing services and engaging in community outreach. Behind the scenes, it's Carla Taylor, our MRC Program Assistant, keeping things on track. Although only with the health department for just under two years, Carla has transformed how volunteers interact in the Putnam County MRC. Continue reading to learn more about Carla.
What is your favorite part of working at the health department?
My coworkers, they are amazing, and I am always impressed by their dedication to their roles in ensuring that the residents of Putnam County receive the information they need to live healthy lives.
Is there a particularly rewarding experience you’d like to share?
Going to the 4-H fair and sharing information about emergency preparedness with members of the public has always been one of my most rewarding experiences. I also enjoy meeting with the members of the public and explaining the role of the Medical Reserve Corps in promoting public health in the county.
What does your day-to-day work look like?
A lot of my work involves keeping in contact with the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) volunteers to give them information about upcoming volunteer opportunities and/or trainings.
What do you wish the public knew about your job?
MRC volunteers are an integral part of promoting public health in the county.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I got was from a previous coworker who was transferring to a new city for a new role. When asked how she would adjust to all the changes to come, she responded, “Change is inevitable; it is how we react to change that will determine who will succeed or who will fail.”
Anyone interested in learning more or joining the Medical Reserve Corps is encouraged to visit the County’s website at putnamcountyny.gov/mrc.
