TREASURER PLEADS GUILTY TO STEALING $212,000 DOLLARS

14 October 2026

CARMEL, NEW YORK – October 14, 2026 – Putnam County District Attorney, Robert Tendy, announced today that on October 13, 2026, Mark Kenny, a former Putnam County resident, pled guilty to stealing $212,000 from the Garrison Fish and Game Club and the Catfish Pond Association. Both are non-profits located in Garrison, NY.

Kenny pled to the entirety of the indictment pending against him which included two counts of Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, and one count of Falsifying Business Records in the 1st Degree.

The investigation began in late December 2024, when members of the Catfish Pond Association and the Garrison Fish and Game Club reported suspected thefts to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. Club members alleged that Kenny, who served as treasurer for both organizations, had systematically stolen organizational funds over several years. Investigator William Kraus of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Melissa Lynch of the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office initiated an investigation, which determined that Kenny had stolen a combined total of $212,000 from the two organizations over a four-year period.

Kenny had lived in Garrison, but after the arrest moved to Orange County.

Sentencing is scheduled for January 26, 2027, before Judge Joseph Spofford. The case was prosecuted by Financial Crimes Assistant District Attorney Melissa Lynch.
