Youth Program Specialist (PT)

Putnam County Youth Bureau is seeking a qualified candidate for the part-time position of Youth Program Specialist acting as a Pegasus teacher/counselor.

Pegasus is a confidential drug/alcohol education program for children ages 5-12 from homes with addicted family members and their parents. The goal of the program is to help these youth deal with their lives more effectively by providing them with a knowledge of addiction issues, coping skills, and emotional alternatives.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Responsibilities include development and implementation of the Pegasus program and working with a team to provide a safe environment for youth and their families. This includes lesson planning, researching, supervision of youth and interaction with their families. Pegasus runs on Thursday evenings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either

a) Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of paid or volunteer experience working with youth, which may have included at-risk youth, in educational, recreational or related setting; or

b) Associate’s degree or sixty (60) college credits and three (3) years of paid or volunteer experience working with youth, which may have included at-risk youth, in educational, recreational or related setting; or

c) An equivalent combination of experience and training as described in a) and b) above.

PLEASE NOTEYour degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.

SUBSTITUTION NOTEPost-secondary level education may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience indicated above on the basis of thirty (30) college credits per year of experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTPossession of a valid, unrestricted, appropriate level driver’s license, and acceptable driving record are required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

PAY: $21/hour

SCHEDULE: Thursday evenings, 5-8pm. 5 hours/week, 20 weeks a year.
