Duo Scorpio Performs Music for Two Harps at the Chapel Restoration
Cold Spring, NY, July 2025 –Harpists Kathryn Andrews and Kristi Shade perform as ‘Duo Scorpio’ at the Chapel Restoration’s Sunday Music Series on July 20, at 4pm. The program features works commissioned by the duo from composers Andy Akiho, Nico Muhly, and Robert Paterson, along with compositions for two harps by Caroline Lizotte and Bernard Andrès. The concert at the historic landmark on the banks of the Hudson River is free; donations are encouraged.
In 2010, harpists Kathryn Andrews and Kristi Shade began searching for music for their newly formed duo and found this area of harp repertoire yet to be fully explored in a contemporary setting. Duo Scorpio has since built an impressive repertoire for their unique ensemble, and has twice been awarded an American Harp Society Grant as well as a Classical Commissioning Grant from Chamber Music America. They have performed throughout the US, Asia, and Australia and released their first recording Scorpion Tales in 2013 on American Modern Recordings, followed by Two Bridges in 2017.
Kathryn and Kristi met in New York City where they received their master’s degrees studying with Susan Jolles at the Manhattan School of Music, and coincidentally share the same birthdate in November. They have embraced their Scorpio Zodiac alignment by using their talent and passion to form this unique duo.
The Chapel Restoration is located at 45 Market Street, directly across from the Metro-North Train Station. Parking is free on Sundays. This project is made possible, in part, through the Putnam Arts Council’s Arts Link Grant Program with public funds provided through the NY State Council on the Arts with support from the Governor’s Office and the NY State Legislature and with public funds from Putnam County.
