Help us Preserve a Hudson Valley Heroine! Talk a walk along scenic Lake Gleneida in Carmel, NY, and discover the legendary story of Sybil Ludington, the teenage heroine of the Revolutionary War. On this self-guided tour, interpretive panels will share the tale of Sybil’s night ride on April 26, 1777, when she altered her father’s Militia Regiment to the burning of Danbury. You’ll also learn about her life in Putnam County and the celebrated sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington (1876-1973), who created the striking equestrian statue to honor Sybil’s courageous ride. Sybil’s ride has inspired poems, children’s books, television programs, board games, and even an opera! Come uncover the truth behind her story and celebrate the magnificent statue that stands at the heart of Carmel Hamlet, right along her historic route. Join your neighbors and community members for a rally on Sunday, October 12th at 2:00 PM to raise awareness for the statue’s restoration as we look ahead to the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.
