‘Tis the Season: Putnam County Hosts Popular OSR Holiday Luncheons
CARMEL, NY – Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne and the Office for Senior Resources (OSR) organized a series of holiday celebrations this week for senior citizens from every town and village in the county for three days of celebrations at the Putnam County Golf Course.
Each event saw around 175 seniors in attendance. Among those joining the festivities were Putnam County Clerk Mike Bartolotti, Sheriff Brian Hess, and representatives from Congressman Mike Lawler’s office, along with Assemblymembers Matt Slater and Dana Levenberg’s offices. County legislators Bill Gouldman, Laura Russo, Erin Crowley, and Putnam Valley Town Supervisor Jackie Annabi also greeted guests.
“These gatherings have real significance, helping to bring our senior community together,” Byrne said. “Our senior citizens have contributed so much, and it’s a privilege to host events where they can celebrate the season, get reconnected to staff and services, catch up with friends, and feel appreciated. The smiles on their faces capture the true meaning of the holidays, and OSR did an excellent job organizing these beloved events.”
Event highlights included a visit from Santa Claus, portrayed by Shawn Keeler from the Putnam Valley Highway Department, and a 50/50 raffle run by the Friends of Putnam County Seniors to benefit United for the Troops. Back-to-Back Entertainment provided music and entertainment throughout the day.
Attendees enjoyed meals catered by Homestyle Catering and the Putnam County Golf Course.
Throughout the year, OSR holds regular holidays and community events for local seniors, aiming to keep them engaged and connected through activities like luncheons and craft markets.
“Events like this are always well-received by our seniors," said Marlene Barrett, Putnam County’s Director of OSR. “They promote connection, joy, and a sense of belonging, which support mental, emotional, and social health. We had a wonderful time with our guests and looking forward to hosting these events again next year.”

“Remember that Putnam County is home. Regardless of what may make us different as individuals, it is our respect for each-other as neighbors, our desire to step up and serve, to lend a hand, and leave this beautiful county better off than we found it. That is what makes this place so special. It is with that in mind that we as a county government are here to serve, and will always serve, with a desire to do better.” - Kevin M.
