NYS Offering Emergency Assistance for Homeowners in Putnam
Carmel, NY – Earlier today, New York State announced an emergency assistance program for homeowners affected by severe flooding last month. Governor Hochul pledged up to $3 million for those in a number of counties, including Putnam. Applications will launch this coming Friday, August 11 and more information about the program can be found here.
Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne said, “Last month, Putnam County was battered by heavy downpours and historic flooding. Many residents suffered severe damage to their personal property and are in need of additional relief, so this is obviously welcome news. I thank Governor Hochul and her team at DHSES for stepping up to provide additional assistance from the State to help homeowners and families who are still struggling to rebuild a month later. We are still proactively sharing information with the state and federal governments to bolster our Congressional representative's efforts to bring back additional assistance from FEMA.”

“Remember that Putnam County is home. Regardless of what may make us different as individuals, it is our respect for each-other as neighbors, our desire to step up and serve, to lend a hand, and leave this beautiful county better off than we found it. That is what makes this place so special. It is with that in mind that we as a county government are here to serve, and will always serve, with a desire to do better.” - Kevin M.
