Temporary Countywide Burn Ban in Effect beginning TODAY, October 28, 2024 at 5pm
Earlier today, County Executive Kevin Byrne signed an Executive Order temporarily banning most outdoor burning while the region continues to experience a prolonged lack of rainfall. The decision comes following the containment of a largescale brush fire in the Town of Kent. County Executive Byrne visited the site of the fire and based on a review of conditions and feedback from professionals, felt it necessary to implement a temporary countywide burn ban.
Later this week, Byrne and other officials will hold a press conference at the County’s Bureau of Emergency Services to highlight the burn ban and provide a timeline on the Kent brush fire. Details to follow.

“Remember that Putnam County is home. Regardless of what may make us different as individuals, it is our respect for each-other as neighbors, our desire to step up and serve, to lend a hand, and leave this beautiful county better off than we found it. That is what makes this place so special. It is with that in mind that we as a county government are here to serve, and will always serve, with a desire to do better.” - Kevin M.
