Aquatic Activities in Putnam County
When visiting the beautiful Putnam County on a hot summer day, what's better than to cool off and enjoy the beautiful lakes, rivers, and ponds throughout the county. Featuring over 60 lakes and reservoirs, here are some of the highlights throughout the county. Whether you want to go boating, swimming, kayaking, or fishing we got you covered!
Town of Southeast
Town Beach at Lake Tonetta - Lake Tonetta is a picturesque 73-acre freshwater lake located in the town of Southeast, offering a public beach for residents and their guests, swimming with lifeguards on duty, fishing, boating, and swimming lessons.
East Branch of the Croton River - offers a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, hiking and exploring the scenery
Town of Patterson
Putnam Lake - Putnam Lake offers a variety of recreational activities for residents of Putnam Lake and their guests, including swimming, boating, trails, and Warren and Jackson Beach open during the summer months with lifeguards on duty.
Wonder Lake State Park - offers a variety of hiking, wildlife sightseeing, and fishing but limited to protect the nature ecosystem
The Great Swamp - offers a unique paddling opportunities with over 14 miles of navigable waters, this spot of perfect for kayaking and canoeing along the swamp with wildlife at every corner. Launch sites are available at the Green Chimney School and Patterson Environmental Park.
Town of Carmel
Sycamore Beach - located within Sycamore Park in Mahopac, this beach has access to a private lake and water activities like swimming, boating and canoeing that you can rent at the beach, and a concession stand for snacks and refreshments open to residents and visitors as guests.
Lake Mahopac - Lake Mahopac offers a wide variety of water activities including boating, fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, jet skiing, and swimming. Boats Rentals available for rent at the Mahopac Marina. You can also visit Lake Mahopac Beach for lounging or picnics. You can also take a boat to see Petra Island and take a tour of the beautiful Frank Llyod Wrright inspired homes; the Massaro House and the Chahroudi Cottage.
Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park Beach - located within the Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park, this beach has access to a lake and activities like swimming, fishing, lounging, and hiking around the lake.
Town of Kent
Lake Carmel - offers a variety of water activities like swimming, lounging on the Lake Carmel Beach, kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding for people with Lake Carmel Park District guest passes.
Canopus Lake - located within the Clarence Fahnestock State Park, this lake is popular and scenic destination for swimming, fishing, boating with electric motors only, kayaking, canoeing, and hiking near the lake.
Town of Philipstown
Hudson River- offers a variety of activities, from kayaking, boating, guided tours on the river via ferry cruises, and waterfront views by the Cold Spring waterfront in the Village of Cold Spring and paddleboarding, and fishing in the village of Garrison at the Garrison Landing.
