COLD SPRING - Gina Larson and her husband, Brian Stoller, spent two years working as professionals in Hong Kong.

During that time, the couple traveled throughout Asia, from Bali to Shanghai to the Philippines. They were struck by the beauty of the décor in these countries, and years later, it inspired them to open Brass Monkey Home in Cold Spring.

Brass Monkey Home specializes in global home design for modern living. Larson and Stoller seek to recreate the magic of finding unique items as they travel through global marketplaces.

“We love being able to share treasures that are not easily found in the Hudson Valley and beyond,” said Larson, a Public Relations professional. “We have an opportunity to curate a variety of unique items from around the world, and there is no passport required for our clients to bring items representative of the culture into their homes.”

Larson and Stoller opened Brass Monkey Home in 2024, and the venture has been a success. They estimate approximately 25 percent of clients are repeat customers, impressive for a tourist town. Brass Monkey Home also operates online and ships throughout the U.S.

Most of the store’s inventory comes from Asia, but Brass Monkey also imports from other countries such as Colombia, Ghana, and Mexico. The couple chooses items that celebrate craftsmanship and are designed to endure, partnering with reputable companies that uphold ethical practices, which ensures good working conditions and fair wages for all artisans involved.

Brass Monkey Home specializes in furniture, tabletops, home décor, and barware. Most items cannot be found in the U.S.

Larson said the store's success has been gratifying, but the warm welcome from the Cold Spring community has made the experience even more meaningful.

“We love being part of the Cold Spring community and Main Street,” Larson said. “The stores work well together and look out for each other.”
