CARMEL - Long before he was preparing Sabrett hot dogs and warming knishes behind the counter of Olde Tyme New York Hot Dogs, Jeff King spent his career serving the public in uniform.

Today, the retired police officer and military veteran has traded his badge for an apron, bringing a slice of classic New York street food culture to Putnam County, where customers stop in for a quick lunch and a friendly conversation with the outgoing owner.

Located in Meadow Plaza on Route 6, Olde Tyme New York Hot Dogs opened in early 2024 with a mission to recreate the unmistakable experience of grabbing a hot dog from a New York City pushcart without having to leave the Hudson Valley.

The menu features Sabrett all-beef hot dogs served with traditional toppings, along with chili cheese dogs, hot sausage, knishes, hot pretzels, and classic New York beverages. The restaurant has earned a loyal following from residents seeking authentic flavors and a welcoming atmosphere.

For King, the restaurant represents another chapter in a lifetime of service.
