Putnam County Small Business Spotlight – The Putnam Valley Market!

31 March 2026

Welcome to Putnam County Small Business Spotlight where we will be highlighting small businesses in our community.

Small businesses are the backbone of Putnam County’s economy and part of the fabric of our beautiful towns and villages. When you shop locally, you are supporting your friends and neighbors.

[* The Small Business Spotlight segment will only feature businesses that target Tourism Visitor Spending which falls under the following categories: Food & Beverage, Retail, Lodging and Recreation/Entertainment. *]

Putnam Valley is defined by its quiet lakeside neighborhoods and slow pace.

Everyone seems to know everyone in the town, population 11,000, adding to its hometown feel. One of the go-to gathering places here is Putnam Valley Market. Founded in 1988 by the Santucci family, the establishment has long been a cornerstone of the community, known as much for its friendly, hometown feel for its food.

The market blends grocery essentials with a popular deli serving fresh sandwiches, hot meals, and brick-oven pizza. It has evolved into a neighborhood gathering spot where locals stop in for a quick bite, a cup of coffee, or to catch up with familiar faces.

Owner Nino Santucci takes pride in taking good care of his customers and hearing about their lives and families, from college graduations to weddings to a big game by someone’s grandson in Little League.

“We are proud to be a community store,” said Nino Santucci. “We need each other; it goes both ways. We always want to do right by our customers by providing great food at a fair price and wonderful service, while getting to know them on a personal basis.”

Santucci’s family learned how much the community cares about Putnam Valley Market, affectionately known as “PV Market,” two years ago. A fire in June of 2024 destroyed the physical structure of the deli's upper floor.

Santucci’s daughter, Alexa Santucci, started a GoFundMe to help with the restoration, and it raised $10,000.

“Looking back, being here 38 years, the time flew by,” Nino Santucci said. “You have seen families raise their kids; they grow up, go to college, and get married. It has been special for us.”
